The TBB will not be posting much of a blog this week thanks to the holiday and Midnight Madness shopping that we will be partaking in this evening, but we did want to make sure that we wished our readers a warm, fun-filled Turkey Day.
And of course, we (or rather, Lisa) did give you poll to vote on and it is our civic duty to report back the results of said poll. Lisa asked you which incentive would’ve kept key players with their previous team. 2 of you felt that if the Angels’ creepy rally monkey was auctioned off on eBay and the proceeds had gone to Mark Teixeira’s contract, he would’ve stayed in Anaheim. Another 2 of you thought that an unlimited supply of fertility drugs and a clean helmet would’ve convinced Manny Ramirez that Boston was the place for him. 1 person voted for the Brewers covering CC Sabathia’s eating expenses for life would’ve been enough for him. Finally, no one thought that simply guaranteeing run support would keep Johan Santana in Minnesota, which is a shame. To think of what Mauer and Morneau (Serena sighs blissfully) would’ve done for Santana this season…
There were a few baseball notes this week worthy of recording here. For starters, Joe Mauer (aka: Baby Jesus. Read our Wrigley Field post for more on this subject) won the AL MVP (almost unanimously) and Albert Pujols took home the NL MVP (unanimously). Omar Vizquel took time off from anaconda wrestling to sign a 1 year deal with the Chicago White Sox, as did Andruw Jones. Vizquel is an awesome defensive short stop, so great pick up for the White Sox. Jones? We’re pretty sick of seeing that face on the ball field. Bob Sheppard announced his retirement from the announcer’s booth at Yankees Stadium. His voice is legendary and he will be sorely missed. He is 99 years old. Lastly, ESPN.com has posted this year’s free agent tracker. Both the Yankees and Mets have their fair share of players up for grabs this off season:
New York Mets:
Alex Cora (SS)
JJ Putz (RP)
Gary Sheffield (LF)
Fernando Tatis (1B)
Elmer Dessens (RP)
Ramon Martinez (SS)
New York Yankees:
Hideki Matsui (DH)
Jose Molina ( C )
Xavier Nady (RF)
Andy Pettitte (SP)
Jerry Hairston Jr. (3B)
Eric Hinske (RF)
Johnny Damon (LF)
We’ll have more malarkey to report to you next week. In the meantime, eat up, laugh, take naps, and have a fantastic Turkey Day!
